The EYFS, Your Child's Development & Your Involvement

The EYFS – what is it all about?

The EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) guidance forms the basis of how all settings (nurseries, childminders and schools) approach the learning and development for children between birth-5 years old. The EYFS is a framework that is mandatory for all early years providers based in England to deliver.

What does it mean in practice?

There are 4 guiding principles to the EYFS:

  1. Every child is a unique child, who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured

  2. Children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships

  3. Children learn and develop well in enabling environments, in which their experiences respond to their individual needs and there is a strong partnership between practitioners and parents and/or carers

  4. Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates.

We work towards the EYFS at all times and have undergone numerous training courses to ensure that the care that we provide will do all these things for your child. We also provide opportunities for parents to be involved in what goes on at my home and will always work to support you as parents/carers in helping your child to be happy and healthy and to flourish.

What we do to support your child's development and you

  • Learning Journeys - Every child gets their own account on Tapestry (app & online portal) this is filled with pictures and observations that document the progress your child makes and the things that they enjoy. Through this, you will get a very good idea of what your child is exploring, their enjoyments, and how they are making those daily little breakthroughs. We will update Tapestry every Friday and during catch up sessions, we can discuss and work together to reinforce your child’s progress. Also during our bi-annual parents evening you will be able to go through this with me and Mouna.

  • Stay & Play - once a term we will have a stay and play session that all parents are invited to. Stay and play is a chance for you to meet other parents, get to know your child's friends, and see their interests in real-time.

  • Open Door Policy - Whilst we are always delighted if you want to come and have a quick chat with us when picking up or dropping off your children if you have any particular questions or concerns you are more than welcome to send over an email, give us a call or arrange a time to pop in and we can catch up or discuss anything that you wish to discuss. Ensuring that you're happy and we’re all on the same page is key to how we foster a strong partnership with our parents.

  • We genuinely love your child - The EYFS is a great foundation for good childminding as it ensures that children are progressing well. Yet, what makes our childcare different is this isn’t primarily a business to us! Your child will be loved and guided and will have all the encouragement and moral support they need to take risks and grow in a safe, supporting, and caring home from home.
